Sunny Fong pushed the limits on Day 1 of Toronto Fashion Week by introducing his retro ubanesque middle-eastern inspired runway featuring long black silhouettes with hints of gold and silver. A plethora of diverse models featuring all shapes and sizes took the catwalk to the beat of Iggy Azelia's Bounce. A rare sight on runways these days but definitely a Sunny Fong staple.
The designer even portrayed a hint of Alexandra McQueen in this collection by introducing a prosthetic leg with a design embellishment. A piece that had that crowd clapping in unison and gasps among onlookers. When I spoke to Sunny he was sure to mention the use of Islamic art in his collection. A noticeable factor in the accessories and prosthetic piece with arcs and and bridges.
The makeup and hair was on point with it's Arabian twist including an exceptional black smokey eye with glitter that the Maybelline team put together along with Cleopatra styled sleek straight Arabian hairdo. A definite win for the Redken hair team. The hair and makeup looks came together to display an exceptionally well put together runway show ending off with Sunny racing down the catwalk to the beat of MIA's Bring the Noise. A wonderful blend of the east and west coming together to display an exquisitely elegant collection.
Sunny Fong did not only focus his attention on the beautiful long dresses and gowns but also introduced some moto-jackets, and skirts to his street style to mix up elegance with raw motorcycle culture. All in all sheer panels, lace cutouts, metallic embellishments and bold eyes made for a stellar runway show.
