SPRING CLEANING AND DETOX
The flowers are blooming, the days are getting warmer, and the sun is finally peeking through the window. It’s April, and spring is officially in the air!
I’ve taken a much-needed break from my blog to rebrand and refocus on my vision for 2019 and everything it has to offer. My website now has a brand-new look, and I’ve been doing my fair share of spring cleaning behind the scenes. I hope you’ll take some time to check it out. :)
Every year, I spend the months from January to March recentering myself emotionally and spiritually. For me, spring cleaning isn’t just about organizing my home—it’s about eliminating excess in all areas of my life. That includes spiritual, emotional, and physical baggage that takes up unnecessary space or energy. Clearing out negative energy creates room for positivity, fresh spaces, and personal clarity.
Over the last year, I’ve learned so much about self-love and creating environments, mindsets, and relationships that help me vibrate higher in all aspects of my life. It’s so important to be mindful of the kind of energy we allow into our environment. Energy cannot be destroyed, only transformed or displaced—this is basic physics and a universal truth. The goal is always to replace negative spaces and energies with clear space and positive vibrations.
Here are some simple ways you can spring clean both your physical and mental spaces to welcome the fresh energy of the season.
1. Physical
Start by clearing your closet, vanity, and living space of items you no longer use. Either store them for safekeeping or let them go entirely. Holding onto objects we don’t use often leads to unnecessary clutter. Donate clothes you no longer wear to a local shelter and keep only the essentials and items that truly “spark joy” and make you feel good.
Detox your body by focusing on nourishing foods. Whether that’s fasting, following a plant-based diet, or trying a pescatarian lifestyle, these choices can help your body reset. Drinking warm water with honey and lemon can also help flush out impurities and support overall balance.
Commit to a simple exercise routine that helps you start your day energized—even if it’s just five minutes every morning.
Don’t forget about your digital space. Clear your phone, laptop, hard drives, and social media of excess files, messages, and content. Organize the photos and documents you want to keep so you can create room for new memories and projects.
2. Mental / Spiritual
Cleanse your aura and spiritual space by burning sage or incense around your home. This practice can help clear stagnant energy and invite in more positive vibrations.
Meditation is another powerful tool for staying present and managing your thoughts. I personally enjoy using the Headspace and Brainwave apps whenever I feel like I’m in a slump. Yoga and dance are also part of my weekly spiritual practice and help me feel grounded and uplifted.
Journaling is another great way to release negative emotions and reflect on your personal growth. Writing down grievances, thoughts, and feelings can help clear your mind and give you a fresh perspective.
I also keep a daily gratitude journal to remind myself of the positives in my life, no matter what stage of my journey I’m in. I write in it every morning and evening to help set the tone for the day. One of my favourites is The 5 Minute Journal, which helps me stay focused on my blessings rather than my problems. Remember—“like attracts like,” and staying positive will naturally invite more positivity into your life.
Don’t be afraid to share your thoughts and feelings with trusted friends. Reassessing your relationships can also be an important part of emotional spring cleaning. Ask yourself questions like: Am I happy? Am I overwhelmed? What can I improve? Let go of one-sided relationships so you can invest your energy into connections that are mutual, supportive, and fulfilling.
Finally, take time to recognize the activities, passions, and relationships that truly bring you joy—and create more space for them in your life.
Happy Spring! 🌸
